Water Restrictions
Florida has year-round water conservation measures to protect our water resources. Understanding and following water restrictions helps ensure adequate water supply for all residents and protects the environment.
Florida Water Restrictions Overview
Year-Round Conservation Measures
The St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) and other water management districts in Florida enforce year-round water conservation measures. These typically include:
- Lawn watering restrictions based on address and day of week
- Time-of-day restrictions (typically before 10 AM or after 4 PM)
- Prohibitions on watering during rain or within 48 hours of rainfall
- Restrictions on washing vehicles, driveways, and sidewalks
- Requirements for automatic shut-off nozzles on hoses
Typical Watering Schedule
Most Florida communities follow a schedule based on your address:
- Addresses ending in 0 or 1: Monday
- Addresses ending in 2 or 3: Tuesday
- Addresses ending in 4 or 5: Wednesday
- Addresses ending in 6 or 7: Thursday
- Addresses ending in 8 or 9: Friday
- No watering: Saturday and Sunday (typically)
Note: Schedules may vary by water management district and local ordinances. Always check with your local water utility or water management district for current restrictions.
Watering Times
Watering is typically allowed:
- Before 10:00 AM, or
- After 4:00 PM
Watering during the heat of the day (10 AM - 4 PM) is generally prohibited as it wastes water through evaporation.
New Landscaping Exception
Newly installed landscaping (within 30-60 days) may be exempt from watering restrictions. Contact your water management district or local utility for details and required permits.
