Pest Control Information

Florida's warm, humid climate makes pest control an important consideration for homeowners. Here are common pests in our area and recommended approaches.

Common Florida Pests

Palmetto Bugs (American Cockroach)

Large, reddish-brown cockroaches that are common in Florida. They prefer warm, moist environments.

Prevention: Seal cracks and gaps, eliminate standing water, keep areas clean and dry. Consider professional treatment if infestation occurs.

Termites

Subterranean and drywood termites are common in Florida and can cause significant structural damage.

Prevention: Annual inspections recommended. Keep wood away from foundation, maintain proper drainage, and address moisture issues promptly.

Fire Ants

Aggressive ants that build large mounds in lawns and can deliver painful stings.

Prevention: Treat mounds with bait or contact insecticides. Professional treatment may be needed for large infestations.

Mosquitoes

Common in Florida, especially near water sources. Can carry diseases like West Nile virus.

Prevention: Eliminate standing water, use screens on windows/doors, use EPA-approved repellents, and consider professional barrier treatments.

General Pest Prevention Tips

  • Seal entry points: Caulk cracks around windows, doors, and foundation. Install door sweeps and repair damaged screens.
  • Eliminate moisture: Fix leaks promptly, ensure proper drainage, use dehumidifiers in damp areas, and keep gutters clean.
  • Maintain landscaping: Trim vegetation away from structures, remove debris, and keep grass cut short.
  • Store food properly: Keep food in sealed containers, clean up spills immediately, and take out trash regularly.
  • Regular inspections: Check your home regularly for signs of pests, especially in attics, basements, and crawl spaces.

Professional Pest Control

For persistent pest problems or large infestations, consider hiring a licensed pest control professional. Look for companies that:

  • • Are licensed and insured in Florida
  • • Offer integrated pest management (IPM) approaches
  • • Provide guarantees and follow-up services
  • • Use environmentally responsible methods

Note: The HOA does not provide pest control services. Each homeowner is responsible for pest control on their property.
