Hurricane & Storm Preparedness
Before a Storm
- • Secure outdoor items: Bring in or secure patio furniture, grills, decorations, and any loose items that could become projectiles.
- • Trim trees: Remove dead or overhanging branches that could damage property or block roads.
- • Check supplies: Ensure you have flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, water (1 gallon per person per day), first aid kit, and medications.
- • Review insurance: Verify your homeowner's insurance and flood insurance coverage.
- • Document property: Take photos or videos of your property and belongings for insurance purposes.
During a Storm
- • Stay indoors: Remain inside away from windows, skylights, and glass doors.
- • Monitor weather: Keep a battery-powered radio or weather alert device nearby.
- • Evacuation: If ordered to evacuate, do so immediately. Follow designated evacuation routes.
After a Storm
- • Safety first: Check for downed power lines, gas leaks, and structural damage before re-entering your home.
- • Document damage: Take photos of any damage for insurance claims before making temporary repairs.
- • Report issues: Contact the Board if community infrastructure (roads, drainage, etc.) is damaged.
- • Community cleanup: Coordinate with neighbors for debris removal and recovery efforts.
